Chapter 9

Enzyme kinetics

The Michaelis-Menten enzyme reaction scheme is described, and the pseudo-steady state approximation which enables it to be solved, are described, from the point of view of singular perturbation theory. Modifications in the presence of a further inhibiting substrate are also analysed, and the exercises consider further variants, both in terms of reactions and parameter limits.

This was the first chapter in the original lecture notes (which comprised the forerunners of chapters 9 to 15), and is perhaps written in a more elementary frame of mind than necessary; on the other hand, a course which starts here would need that approach.
