Funding opportunities for Chinese-European collaborations in pure mathematics:
The Royal Society has various schemes of interest in this context. Postdoctoral fellowships to the UK from China are available. Preference is given to candidates who are in mainland China at the time of application and who have not previously spent a significant period abroad. Fellowships can be awarded for periods of between six months and one year. The annual closing date is 31 March. Candidates must be of postdoctoral status (or in the final stage of PhD, successful viva is necessary before fellowship can be taken up). Funding is also available for joint projects between UK and Chinese researchers (up to 6000 per year for two or three years). Matching funds must be secured by Chinese research group from a Chinese source. Closing date: 31 October. Study visits from the UK to China or vice versa, for postdocs or experienced researchers. Between two weeks and three months in length. No closing date, applications to be received at least three months before the proposed start.
The London Mathematical Society supports visitors from abroad, travels abroad and workshops under several schemes. Scheme 5 is especially suitable for visitors from China. The UK research council EPSRC offers a variety of schemes to support visiting fellowships, postdoctoral positions, workshops and networking. The Leverhulme Trust supports visiting fellowships, visiting professorships, international travel and research projects with interdiscplinary orientation. There is also a scheme called research interchange grant, supporting collaborations. Preproposals can be submitted at any time, final proposals by 1 September or 1 December. The German academic exchange agency DAAD has a number of schemes for Chinese students and visitors.Other useful links:
