Visiting fellowships:

The network's aim is to support research collaborations and postdoctoral training. Visiting fellowships are available for postdoctoral researchers from China or Europe to visit one or several of the UK partner institutions (City University London, Leeds University, Leicester University, Oxford University, Warwick University). Over the period 2004 to 2006, there are 36 postdoc months available for researchers from China and 12 postdoc months from Europe. Normally, a visiting fellowship from China will be for three to six months, one from Europe will normally be for one or two months.

The network offers visiting fellowships, but no positions; there are no taxes and no pension contributions. The monthly stipend for a postdoctoral visiting fellow is 800 GBP. In addition, support is available for the travel to and from the place to visit.

Applications are now invited for visiting fellowships for postdoctoral researchers from Chinese or European universities. Applications can be submitted at any time; they will be dealt with on a rolling basis, there is no deadline.

Eligible applicants hold a Phd degree (or are about to complete their PhD before the proposed starting date of the fellowship) and are currently affiliated to a Chinese or European university, respectively.

Application procedure:

A prospective applicant first has to contact informally a host (one of the project's partners). The formal application to the network then has to be sent preferably by email, to the coordinator (Steffen Koenig). An application has to include the following information:

  • Letter of application, clearly stating the names of the host and the area of the intended research project to be carried out during the visit, and the preferred starting date of the fellowship.
  • CV, giving details on academic education and any other relevant information (publications, prizes, etc).
  • Name and (email) address of a referee. The prospective host cannot act as a referee. Typically the referee should be the PhD supervisor or a senior mathematician, who is familiar with the applicant's work. Candidates are encouraged to choose referees from the network's partner institutions or European associates. References will be solicited by the management team and should not be sent with the application.
