We will run a summer school on "Semisimple complex Lie algebras and
their representations" from 7 - 13.9.2003 in Oxford.
Accomodation is booked in Sommerville College for 33
pounds/night. Rooms are limited. Please pass the information on to
interested students. PhD-students starting in autumn 2003 are welcome
to attend. No funding is available.
The focus of the summer school is on the representation theory. It
will start by defining and classifying semisimple complex Lie algebras
(as necessary for representation theory). The necessary combinatorics
of Weyl groups and root systems will be introduced and explained. Then
universal enveloping algebras and the PBW theorem will be discussed.
Finite-dimensional and some infinite-dimensional representations will
be studied and examples will be considered in detail.
Schedule: We will start Monday morning at 9:30 and will end every
day around 18:00; the last day will be Friday.
Literature: For example, J.Humphreys, Introduction to Lie algebras and
representation theory. An example based textbook is W.Fulton and M.Harris,
Representation theory. A first course.
