Workshop on the Hele-Shaw and related free boundary problems

A workshop was held in Oxford, from August 24-26 1998, on the Hele-Shaw and problem and related issues. (Sponsorship from the London Mathematical Society and the European Journal of Applied Mathematics is gratefully acknowledged.) It took place 100 years after H.S. Hele-Shaw's paper in Nature, after which the problem is named, and 40 years after the celebrated paper by Taylor and Saffman ( Proc. Roy. Soc. 1958 ) which sparked off the fingering controversy.

Publication

There were no formal proceedings. However, the editors of the European Journal of Applied Mathematics agreed to have a special issue devoted to the subject, to appear not long after the meeting. Watch this space for details of its appearance.

As part of the preparation for the meeting, we prepared a bibliography of papers devoted to Hele-Shaw and Stokes flow problems. It is available for downloading from here.
