Michele Taroni - Mathematical modelling of the manufacture of solar cells

Like many other types of electronic circuits, solar cells are manufactured using the screen-printing process, whereby the desired circuit pattern is printed onto the substrate by pushing a paste through a screen, which has a stencil attached to it. The pastes are concentrated particle dispersions, whose rheological behaviour is highly non-Newtonian. In this talk, we present a lubrication-theory based model for the process, highlighting the aspects of particular interest to industrial manufacturers, and thus show-casing how the "mathematics in industry" model works.
