The answers to the these and related questions involve some fundamental mathematical tools---in particular, linear algebra, interpolation, nonlinear mappings, and fast transforms. I will give an overview of the mathematical aspects of digital photography, from capture through editing to output. I will conclude with some ``before and after'' examples of how mathematical thinking can help you to improve your images.
