Natasha Li Martin

I am a 4th year Dphil (PhD) student at Magdalen College, University of Oxford, based in the Centre for Mathematical Biology. My supervisors are Professor Philip Maini and Dr. Eamonn Gaffney, and I am funded by the NIH. I work in collaboration with Dr. Robert Gatenby and Dr. Robert Gillies at the Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute, and also Dr. Ian Robey at the University of Arizona.

My research focuses on mathematical models of tumor invasion and metastasis, and preventative treatments. In particular, I am developing models of tumor acidity and buffering therapy. Previously, as an undergraduate at Stanford University, I worked on phenotypic plasticity in barnacles, as well as a mathematical model of leukemia.

In October 2009, I will be starting as a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Social Medicine, University of Bristol. There, I will examine the efficacy of interventions designed to reduce the spread of HIV and Hepatitis C among IV drug users.
