Marks in 2007 (best two answers): 26, 11, 44, 44, 27, 39, 36, 30, 31, 39, 20, 38, 22. In order: 11, 20, 22, 26, 27, 30, 31, 36, 38, 39, 39, 44, 44. As percentages: 22, 40, 44, 52, 54, 60, 62, 72, 76, 78, 78, 88, 88. Average: 63. Report on the Elliptic Curves examination. Prof. E.V. Flynn. The exam went smoothly with no problems. There were 13 students who sat these questions (some as the half unit "Elliptic Curves", and some as part of the unit "Analytic Number Theory and Elliptic Curves"). The marks of these students (for the best two answers) were (out of 50): 11, 20, 22, 26, 27, 30, 31, 36, 38, 39, 39, 44, 44, which as percentages were: 22, 40, 44, 52, 54, 60, 62, 72, 76, 78, 78, 88, 88, which gives an average of about 63%. Almost half of the class (6 students out of 13) obtained first class marks of at least 70%. Overall, the exam questions seemed to do a good job of spreading the students out, and the marks correspond fairly well to my general impression of their standard of work during the term. Only one student was below honours standard (less than 40%). The two marks of 88 were excellent performances, and both of these students demonstrated depth of understanding and the ability to think on their feet.
