About me

Renee Hoekzema I am a DPhil student at the Mathematical Institute of the University of Oxford, working with Ulrike Tillmann researching topology of manifolds and cobordism categories. Previously I was a DPhil student at the Earth Sciences Department of the University of Oxford working with the late Martin Brasier on growth and morphology of Ediacaran organisms. Before this I wrote my master's thesis in quantum gravity with Renate Loll at the Institute for Theoretical Physics of Utrecht University and Tom Ilmanen at the Department of Mathematics of ETH Zürich, concluding a double masters in theoretical physics and mathematics at Utrecht University.

Within mathematics I am interested in algebraic topology, geometric topology and mathematical physics, particularly in the study of manifolds, cobordism categories and topological quantum field theories.
