Graphs and Groups

Days: 27-29 September 2012.

Place: University of Lille1 , Cité Scientifique, Villeneuve d'Ascq.

Organizer: Cornelia Drutu Badea.

Plenary talk (Lecture Room, ground floor, CERLA ): Pierre Pansu (University of Paris XI)

Mini-courses ( Salle de Réunion, Batiment M2, first floor):

The workshop is part of the one-week Inaugural Conference of the European Center for Mathematics, Physics, and their Interactions (CEMPI).

It is composed of a plenary talk accessible to a very large audience, and series of mini-courses, accessible to non-specialists.

The goals of the workshop are: to introduce specialists in pure mathematics (especially geometers, analysts and probabilists) to new and inspirational developments in combinatorics and computer science; to introduce computer scientists to new methods coming from pure mathematics; to discuss the theme of embeddability of groups, which follows an idea from combinatorics (that of solving a combinatorial problem by embedding the combinatorial structure under consideration into a good space), and which turned out to be very effective in geometry and topology.
